NASA Tech = Stop Guessing - Start Scanning, NASA Certified Computerised Spinal Technology

How do you know what's really going on in your body? How do you know when your body has healed or when it needs more help?We have become used to using blood tests, x-rays and MRI's to understand what is going on in our body. There is new technology, developed by NASA for the assessment of astronauts that is being used more and more in the sports performance arena that can be used to assess what is going on in your body and help establish why you may not be recovering from injuries.

Using the latest technology we can assess what is happening in your muscles, your nerves and how your body is handling any stressors. This enables us to monitor your progress and give advice that would otherwise be simply guesswork.

We use four computerized technologies to assess your function and support your healing.

Surface EMG / sEMG
In a similar way to EKG (ECG - electrocardiogram) measuring the electrical activity of the heart SEMG measures the electrical activity of the muscles that support the spine. Misalignments in the spine and tension in nerves show up as changes in muscle activity which can be measured. Often this enables us to detect a problem before symptoms show up.

Our databanks know how much energy the muscles along the spine should “spend” to maintain proper posture and alignment. If these signals are too strong or even to week, the program will detect and score the results. Muscles that are constantly overworked tire more easily and are part of the picture of overall sense of fatigue and exhaustion. Muscle patterns affect energy and vitality. We are looking to see a reduction in intensity (where it’s high) and a change in pattern, as this indicates flexibility and an ability to adapt to change.

The tests only take a few minutes with probes being placed directly on the skin. The test is painless and totally safe.

Thermography

This device is like a high powered thermometer. It uses infra-red technology to simultaneously measure the temperature of your skin either side of the spine. Theoretically the temperature should be the same either side. However, areas of nerve irritation can affect the function of the blood vessels causing focal areas of skin temperature to either drop or elevate.

Researchers have found that changes in temperature along the spine are directly related to how well organs work. Measuring the subtle changes in temperature allows an inside view of how body systems are responding to stress.

With incredible sensitivity this tool enables us to gain deeper insight into spinal dynamics.

Interestingly, although now very high tech, the origins of this process appear to date back to Hippocrates who would smear mud on the patients back and observe how the patterns formed as it dried.

Heart Rate Variability (HRV)

This test is widely used in cardiology, exercise physiology and psychology. Everything from anxiety, work and family pressures, poor diet, lack of exercise or old injuries can leave a stain on the boy’s stress management systems. HRV gives us an accurate reading on the amount of “reserve” you have available for keeping up with the daily demands. It is also an excellent method for tracking how well you are recovering and regaining your vital energy.

Computerised Postural Analysis

How your stand or how you hold yourself says a lot about your internal processes. Some people shift to one side to avoid pain or discomfort, others may shift body weight forwards in an “attack” posture. Some may stoop to reflect internal emotional discomfort. Your posture analysis can be used to evaluate your biomechanical distortions and give insight into your emotional state.

They say it takes 7 seconds for someone to make up their mind as to whether they like you, want to be with you or work with you. How you “posture” is extremely important on a daily basis. This technology helps us to help you improve at many levels.
